Common questions about orthotics from Miller Prosthetics & Orthotics

  • If you're experiencing foot, ankle, knee, or back pain that limits your daily activities, orthotics might help. Many people come to us after trying over-the-counter inserts without success, or when their doctor recommends custom support for conditions like plantar fasciitis, drop foot, or arthritis. We'll start with a free consultation to assess your needs and discuss whether custom orthotics are right for you.

  • Custom orthotics are made specifically for your body and condition. We take precise measurements and create a device that fits you perfectly, addresses your specific pain points, and supports your mobility goals. Store-bought options are one-size-fits-most and can't account for your unique needs. Custom devices typically last longer and provide better results.

  • Most insurance plans cover custom orthotics when prescribed by your doctor. We work with most major insurance providers and will verify your coverage before creating your device so you know what to expect. We'll provide a clear estimate of any out-of-pocket costs before moving forward.

  • After your initial consultation and measurements, most custom orthotics are ready within 2-3 weeks, after insurance authorization.

We fabricate many devices right here in our facility, which means faster turnaround and the ability to make adjustments quickly if needed. We'll schedule a fitting appointment to ensure everything works perfectly before you leave.

  • Consultations include physical examination of the affected joint(s), along with manual muscle and range of motion testing. Gait is also observed to note any abnormalities and asymmetries. A series of physical tests and questions related to pain, discomfort, and instability help the practitioner to understand the issue and provide patient a device that will help accommodate their issue and return to their activities of daily living (ADL’s).
